Dear Lacey… Time Doesn't Stop For Anyone

Dear Lacey,

A lot can happen in 30 seconds, it doesn’t seem like a long enough time for anything to happen but trust me, it takes one phone call, one speeding car or this amount of seconds being late or early to something and it could make or break you. Time is very valuable and I advise you to use it to your advantage, get things done, stay motivated as much as possible.

Live every second as if the possibility of it being your last is as real as it actually is.

Don’t just go with the flow, ever. This won’t get you anywhere. It’s a great saying but it’s awful as well, I see it as subtly promoting laziness and that’s not good, don’t be the kind of person that goes with the “everything happens for a reason” saying because you have the ability to change things, to make things happen, to stop things from happening so use this ability, exercise it. Know when you have the power to change things, don’t wait for everything to come to you because it won’t, it doesn’t work that way, you have to make the effort and this is for anything. Weight loss, getting a job, getting a promotion, getting the grades you want, making a relationship work, literally anything and everything requires a mind set where you have to work to get where you want to be rather than just sitting about and hoping for the best.

You create your own fate, greatness isn’t something that just happens, not to anyone. Everyone that is happy with their life has worked for it and if they aren’t happy with their life, look at it. Are they really trying as hard as they can to get where they want or are they only half trying? Do they just kinda want it? Are they partying instead of grafting? Are they sleeping instead of working on themselves?

Don’t get me wrong, luck and being in the right place at the right time both play important parts in your life, but above everything, you really need to grasp life as tight as you can and hold on because it’s everything but easy and everything requires time management and a lot of work. Don’t let opportunities slip from you because you turned up ten minutes late, be first to volunteer for work experience. Life is like one big race and if you don’t waste time, you’ll be ahead of everyone else and they’ll be in your dust. Do something, get up and make your own decisions, realise you are able to change things and fight for what you believe in but also realise when it’s time to move on, not give up, move on to better, more important things. Don’t waste time. Everything moves much faster in your teenage years, blink and you’ll miss it.

You never know when your efforts will pay off so don’t quit. Reaching a goal is a very slow process but stopping won’t speed it up. Be persistent in everything, in the words of J Cole, “f*** good, we demand great.” Demand great Lacey, don’t settle for anything less if you’ve worked hard enough and used every second wisely, if you think you deserve it, get it.

A lot can happen in thirty seconds.

Good luck moosh.

I always love when parents take the time to write letters to their children. This is so precious and wonderful!
